Something That Rhymes With Wasp

I am such an unlucky person.

Early yesterday morning I went to sit down for a chat with Lu Wee at LT 12. It was after registration and I had my free block, so I could spare a little time before meeting Eric. I should have known better that nothing good will ever come out of sitting next to Lu Wee. The next thing I knew, I was stung by a wasp!

I thought that some debris fell on my tudong a few seconds after sitting down, as you know, the ceilings of the college are falling apart and in need of a serious patch up. Thinking it was nothing I just carelessly swiped it away with my right hand. Who knew it was this humongous black and yellow wasp that was sitting just mere millimeters away from my face. Thank goodness I only got stung on the tip of my right thumb.

Unfortunately, I thought it was a bee that stung me, I couldn't tell the difference between a bee, wasp or hornet. I was freaking out since I was never stung by anthing before. I quickly ran to the Student Affairs office with Lu Wee. At first we were walking calmly, the pain was still bearably. But I realised that my thumb was swelling up so we broke out into a run.

I have to say that the system in MD sucks. The teachers, rather than eagerly attending a victim of a serious wasp attack, kept directing me to another teacher, and another, and another. When I came to the end of the redirecting line, the teachers didn't know what to do. 'Was it vinegar that we have to put on a bee sting?' they asked each other.

Aiya.

Are they not supposed to be prepared for emergencies like this!? Didn't they have like training drills? Don't they have some anti-venom in their first aid kit? Do they even HAVE a first aid kit? I think they do, but do they KNOW its contents?!

Lucky for me, the Deputy Principal, Cikgu Munah, was at the scene. She was being helpful. I was going to be fine as long as I wasn't allergic. She was asking, 'Do you feel dizzy, numbness, sweaty? Are your lips alright?' I replied, 'Dizzy, no, numb, no, sweaty, yea! Since I ran all the way here! Lips, just fine.'

It was comforting the fact that there was at least someone in the room who knew what to do. But I wasn't convinced that my safety was assured. Cikgu Munah continued, 'We just have to wait and see if you swell up in a few hours. If you do, then you have to go to the hospital'. I was like giving a nervous laugh. Wait for me to swell up? Go to the hospital?

ARE YOU LIKE FREAKING KIDDING ME?!

My life is like at stake here. The least you could do was ring the alarm, scream 'CODE RED!', bring out a stretcher and keep me under observation for six hours!

But thank goodness, my thumb was the only body part that got swelled up. For the whole day I was in pain, complaining to everyone and showing off my wasp-stung thumb. I was walking around everywhere unconsciously giving the thumb-up to everyone. At times my index finger would pop out under reflex, so it appeared as if I was giving someone directions.

Some people were nice, telling me how I'll be fine. Others, were being mean, trying to freak me out. Hazim and Afiq were saying how my thumb might swell up so big that my nail will drop off. Khairah and Helwa were saying that I should put saliva/spit/urine on my thumb. Eric and Chiao Hong were saying how the bee (when I still didn't know it was a wasp) might be a honey bee. I was sweet, so the bee attacked me.

Right now, 30 hours later, the pain is gone, it's still swollen and it itches. Typing is difficult. And it does hurt if I put my thumb in running water (I found out while brushing my teeth and washing my hands) and if I put my thumb in the direction of hot air (I found out while blow-drying my wet hair).

This is serious. How many wasps are out there around the school compund? Is the school prepared if someone who got stung happened to be allergic? Is there no action taken to look for the nest? (There must be a nest somewhere, why would a wasp attack me for no god damn reason?) Are we safe?

Well, I can't do anything but complain about the teachers, evil wasps, and the swell of my thumb. But, I can warn everyone about Area LT12 (should at least be restricted and under quarantine) and about sitting next to Lu Wee (should also be restricted and under quarantine).

PS. Since I thought it was a bee that stung me initially, I was happy at the thought that the bee would be dead. I even went back to the scene of the crime (I know, how brave of me after being so badly traumatised) a few hours later in hopes of finding the dead body. I was planning to step on the bee continuously until it became mush. But since it was a wasp that stung me, it flew off with its sting still attached to its ass, looking for another victim. The sting stays intact to the wasp's ass, unlike a bee which has its butt ripped off as the sting gets stuck to where ever you got stung.

I so want to step on the wasp. Revenge can be just as sweet as a mashed up honey bee.

And to Lu Wee, even though I'm unlucky around you, I still love you, haha.

Thumb Status Update

My thumb not only itches now, it hurts whenever I touch it or when it accidentally touches something, for example the space bar on my computer. Not cool. And it's still swollen, I cant bend it. Kind of reminds me of Zeerah's unbendable thumb, hehe. I have to say this again, damn unlucky.
